“If unhelpful thinking patterns or behaviours can be learnt, then they can also be revised to healthier ways of thinking and viewing the world.”
MY APPROACH
I started this practice to help people deal with psychological stress in their life. The methods I use are very different than most counselling or coaching practices out there. As you may be aware, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is the most commonly prescribed treatment for most mental health conditions. As you attend coaching sessions, you will see for yourself exactly where my approach differs from the CBT approach, but there will be one aspect which will always line up with CBT. This aspect is the idea that our emotional disturbances are not caused primarily by the events in our life but how we view them. And so, if unhelpful thinking patterns or behaviours can be learned, then they can also be revised to healthier ways of thinking and viewing the world.
CBT began in the 1950’s with a psychologist called Albert Ellis, who created a therapy called Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy. In creating this therapy, Ellis was influenced by the ancient stoic philosophers, and so he believed the role of the therapist was a teacher, someone who can show the client the core philosphy behind their stress and teach them a new way of looking at life. This is so that they can experience considerably less stress as they go through life. This therapy later evolved into the current form of CBT.
The methods I use are more aligned with Ellis’s original version of CBT. However, the body of work I use is more advanced and cutting edge than Ellis’s, having been produced by a melting pot of lecturers, therapists and clients during the formation of Fountainhead Retreat in Queensland, Australia. This work was refined over many years of clinical practice and was taught to me by two therapists who had a huge impact on my life.

In a moment of immaturity you might hear me make the claim these therapist are the the people who helped with my life’s development and learning. But really, the lessons I have learnt and continue to learn force me to look far beyond such a narrow scope, to the point of ackowledging every single person and situation that I have ever encountered. All of these people and situations played a role in revealing to me what I currently understand and would ike to share with you.
Life is a development process – a process of learning – and every person is always involved in that learning process everyday!
If you begin sessions with me, I will take you through these steps:
Step 1: Talk Therapy
A discussion of your life story, circumstances and concerns.
Step 2: Holistic Therapy Program
An education on how you can learn to grow out of your stress and illness. “Holistic” means “taking everything into account”.
Step 3: Applying the remedy
A practical discussion on how you can apply what you have learnt.
Step 4: Follow up
A check in to see what effect the therapy is having and whether there is anything else we need to cover. This is where therapy has a huge advantage over self-help – it provides assistance taylored to where you are at.
Through though these methods, I hope to serve as catalyst to transformation in your life!
